Our Curriculum

Overview:

At King Fishers Day Nurseries, our curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded early education that nurtures each child’s growth and development. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring a balanced approach that supports children’s learning through play, exploration, and creative expression.

We aim to inspire curiosity and a love for learning, helping every child reach their full potential.

Our Approach to Learning

We believe children learn best when happy, engaged, and inspired. Our curriculum is centred around child-led activities that encourage curiosity and imagination. Our experienced educators tailor learning experiences to each child’s interests, ensuring that every child feels valued and supported.

We provide a stimulating environment where children can explore, investigate, and express themselves. Through hands-on activities, interactive play, and creative projects, we foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and social skills, laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

We cover four specific areas:

Understanding
the World

We encourage children to explore their surroundings and become aware of the world around them. Children learn about people, places, and communities through nature walks, science experiments, and cultural celebrations.

Literacy

We introduce early reading and writing skills through phonics, storytelling, and interactive activities. Our literacy programme encourages a love for books and helps children develop essential language and communication skills.

Expressive Arts
and Design

Creativity is at the heart of our curriculum. We provide opportunities for children to express themselves through art, music, dance, and imaginative play. Our activities inspire creative thinking and help children develop fine motor skills and self-expression.

Mathematics

Our hands-on approach to mathematics makes learning fun and engaging. We teach number recognition, counting, shapes, and patterns through play-based activities, puzzles, and problem-solving tasks.

Prime Areas of Learning

Our curriculum is built on three prime areas of learning:

Personal, Social,
and Emotional Development

We encourage children to build positive relationships, develop self-confidence, and understand their feelings and those of others. Children learn to share, cooperate, and communicate effectively through group activities and social interactions.

Physical
Development

We promote physical well-being and coordination through active play, outdoor exploration, and movement-based activities. Our curriculum includes fine motor skills development through arts and crafts and gross motor skills through sports and outdoor games.

Communication and
Language

We create a language-rich environment that supports children in developing speaking, listening, and understanding skills. We encourage confident communication and language development through storytelling, singing, and conversation.

Enriching Your Child’s Learning Experience

At King Fishers Day Nurseries, we believe in providing a rich learning environment that goes beyond the core curriculum. Our enrichment programmes include:

  • Music and Movement: Encouraging rhythm, coordination, and self-expression.
  • Outdoor Learning: Promoting physical activity and an appreciation of nature.
  • Cultural Celebrations: Teaching diversity, respect, and understanding of different cultures.
  • Language Development Sessions: Support bilingual children and introduce basic language skills.
